Crete Day 1
At the risk of ridicule, I freely admit that the sun is not exactly shining and it’s not as warm as it should be. Go ahead and gloat you hosepipe banners. Right. – that’s done.
It is however, perfect training weather, bit cloudy, bit sunny, stiff breeze. We can still stand on the sand at mid-day rather than hopping over it like desert lizards.
And there’s still the food. Lunchtime by the sea, eating enormous meatballs and real chips (freshly cut from real, apparently gigantic, potatoes) having scraped off the plates of freshly made tsatziki, stewed beans and Greek salad.
After the afternoon swim, siesta, and training (at an ambient comfortable temperature) there is the Food. Christos doesn’t make food, he creates Food.
So the glorious dinner was mashed chick peas, tomato and garlic paste, stuffed mushrooms, pasta with hard cheese, warm bread, followed by slow-roasted pork and potatoes. Washed down by a beautiful sunset and a balmy seaside evening with no more wind.
“Erm, why haven’t I been on this trip before – if I’d known it was like this……”. Told you so.
Inner peace set to standby.
Goodnight.
